Modalities

My massage approach integrates some or all of these modalities considering your comfort and need. During our pre-massage consultation we’ll collaboratively define your objectives for the session. Using these insights you provide I’ll form the session tailored to address your specific needs!

Deep Tissue --
slower pace and more pressure (should not be painful or so much pressure that you are flinching against). Usually less. lotion or oil used, and work that goes deeper into the layers of muscles and connective tissue.

Swedish --
One of the most common styles of massage in the US. It is usually full body using soft, gliding long strokes towards the heart. Can include friction, kneading, tapping, etc.

PNF (proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) --
Proprioception is the awareness of the position of your body in space or of the movement of your body.  Neuromuscular means relating to nerves and muscles. Facilitation means to help make easier. The technique uses passive stretching. and active resistance aiming to relieve muscle tension and improve flexibility. To read more:

Myofascial/trigger Point therapy --
You can think of fascia like a spider web. The string tissue is densely woven throughout your muscles, bones, nerves, arteries, veins and organs. Your fascia is one continuous structure throughout your body, and is one of the "newest discovered" organs in the body. Since it's one continuous structure of your body if theirs a snag in the tissue it can cause pain or restriction in another part of your body.
